Around and about the Aston Cottages

Aston Cottages is in superb location from which to explore the delights of the Peak District.

Right from the front door of your cottage, there is plenty to explore and enjoy. A walk up to Win Hill, especially on a clear day, is a beautiful walk and offers the chance to see the spectacular Derwent Valley, the “Dambuster Dams”  and the rugged moorlands of the Dark Peak.

A half mile down the wooded lane is Hope, with its shops, pubs, post office and railway station. Beyond Hope lies Castleton with the Blue John Caverns and ancient Peveril Castle. Hathersage has an open-air swimming pool and tennis courts and Little John’s grave in the churchyard.

Edale and the start of the Pennine Way are only six miles away. The Market towns of Buxton and Bakewell (both with indoor swimming pools) are both worth exploring. Bakewell is famous for it’s puddings and has its traditional market day on Mondays. Buxton is 10 miles away and Bakewell 12. Further afield but still easy to get to is Chatsworth, Haddon and Matlock Bath.
